Vitamin C. Known as ascorbic acid a power antioxidant protecting cells from free radical damage and oxidative stresses which may be linked to chronic disease. Studies show vitamin c can increase antioxidant by 30% helping the body fight inflammation. The matrix, the foundation for collagen building in skin and tissue including gum tissue, begins with proper levels of vitamin c. Reduction in chronic disease as an antioxidant, lowering of high blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels, lowering the risk of heart disease by lowering LDL cholesterol and blood triglycerides, uric acid reduction, immunity boosting and memory protection may be impacted by Vitamin C.

Many fruits and vegetables contain vitamin C but can we eat enough to gain the required about to be healthy? Smoking and some medications may lower vitamin c levels. To eliminate scurvy, the bleeding of spongy oral gingivae and skin may only require a lemon or two a day. Health and wellness support may require greater Vitamin c intake. Supplementation suggestion ranges from 500mg to 2000mg daily as ascorbic acid is water soluble and is not stored in the body.
