Olympic Athlete Turns News Conference Into Worship Concert

American Faith

In a remarkable display of faith, Yemisi Ogunleye, a gold medalist in the women’s shot put at the 2024 Paris Olympics, turned her press conference into an impromptu worship service.

When asked about her involvement in a gospel choir, Ogunleye responded by singing the gospel song “I Almost Let Go,” praising Jesus for His grace and support during her competition.

“I just lifted my hands and prayed before my final attempt, and I wanted to have a good last round,” Ogunleye said. “Then after that throw and realizing it would maybe be good enough for gold, I thought, ‘Thank you, Jesus.’”

The powerful moment, which included lyrics about overcoming the devil’s grip through God’s mercy, captivated the audience and quickly went viral, drawing widespread applause both at the event and online.

Her actions were praised by many, including evangelist Franklin Graham, who commended her for not being ashamed of her faith.
