2,000 People Baptized in California

American Faith

Two thousand people were baptized at Pirates Cove in Newport Beach, California.

Last week’s baptisms followed Pastor Greg Laurie’s annual Harvest Crusade.

“Baptism at Pirate’s Cove! What a great day! Glory to God. We baptized 2000 people!” Laurie wrote on X.

Pirates Cove is the location where thousands were baptized during the Jesus Movement of the late 1960s-1970s.

Ahead of the July 27 baptisms, Laurie shared on social media, “This is where we used to baptize people during the Jesus movement days. Cathe and I were baptized there too. This is where we also shot the scenes for the Jesus Revolution film.”

Last year, 4,500 people were baptized at Pirates Cove.

Thousands have been baptized across California this year, with more than 12,000 people getting baptized over Pentecost Sunday, May 19th.

Oceans Church, located in Irvine, California, enlisted more than 300 congregations across the state to participate in the event.

“Our church is excited about revival,” Pastor Mark Francey said. “We want to see God awakened. We’re tired of the darkness in California. We believe that God wants people to know about it, and if we will put our money where our frustration is, that God could do something great.”

Francy told The Christian Post that “it wasn’t just one denomination” participating in the baptisms.

“It wasn’t just one part of the body of Christ. We had the largest Baptist churches in the state. Churches like Sandals, … a lot of the big Baptist churches in the state were all a part of [Sunday] with some of the largest Evangelical churches, Pentecostal churches, charismatic churches, even at the Presbyterian Calvary Chapel Vineyard,” he said. “To see it kind of cross a denominational threshold, … I think that what God blesses is unity, and when the church works together.”
